Free 7-day plan + printable PDF

Your final 7 days before the Irish driving test

One clear priority per day. Use the plan with your ADI or supervising driver to turn last-minute nerves into focused, realistic practice.

What learner discussions keep pointing to

Irish learner discussions repeatedly return to nerves, observation, mock drives and recovering after a small mistake. This plan turns those recurring concerns into daily actions. Community posts are useful signals, not official rules or evidence that one routine guarantees a pass.

The daily plan

Seven focused sessions, not seven panic sessions

7

7 days to go

Set a calm baseline

Goal: Find the two or three habits that need attention before test day.

  • Take one realistic mock drive with your ADI or supervising driver.
  • Ask them to record repeated patterns, not every isolated mistake.
  • Choose no more than three priorities for the week.
Check your overall readiness

6 days to go

Make observation automatic

Goal: Use the same visible observation routine at every change of direction or speed.

  • Practise mirror checks before signalling, changing speed or position.
  • Add a clear blind-spot check before moving off when needed.
  • Drive a short route where the only scored habit is observation.
Review practical road skills

5 days to go

Practise the local road mix

Goal: Get comfortable with the types of roads near your centre without memorising a route.

  • Include junctions, roundabouts, housing estates and faster roads where appropriate.
  • Narrate the next hazard and safe response before you reach it.
  • Repeat one weak situation, then move on once the response is consistent.

Manoeuvres and recovery

Goal: Show control, observation and safe correction rather than chasing perfection.

  • Rehearse the manoeuvres your instructor has taught you.
  • Practise pausing safely and correcting position when needed.
  • If you stall, secure the car, restart calmly and continue your observations.

Knowledge and vehicle checks

Goal: Answer briefly and know where the main checks are on the test vehicle.

  • Say common verbal answers aloud rather than only reading them.
  • Locate oil, coolant, brake fluid and windscreen washer points.
  • Confirm permit, tax, NCT where applicable, L-plates and a physical motor insurance certificate.

Run the final readiness check

Goal: Remove practical surprises while there is still time to fix them.

  • Check lights, tyres, mirrors, windscreen, dashboard warnings and fuel or charge.
  • Confirm the centre location, travel time and test appointment.
  • Do one normal drive; avoid turning it into a stressful marathon session.

1 day to go

Reduce the load

Goal: Arrive rested with a simple plan, not a head full of last-minute rules.

  • Use a short, easy drive only if it helps you settle.
  • Put documents, keys and anything needed for the car in one place.
  • Stop heavy revision early and protect your sleep routine.

A 90-second reset for test day

  1. 1. Exhale slowly. Relax your hands and shoulders before moving off.
  2. 2. Shrink the task. Deal with the next junction, hazard or instruction - not the whole test.
  3. 3. Recover safely. One mistake does not require a second hurried mistake.

Check the official requirements

From 9 March 2026, RSA vehicle requirements include presenting a valid physical motor insurance certificate for the test vehicle. Digital copies are not accepted.
