Pass rate questions
- What is the average driving test pass rate in Great Britain?
- In 2025/26 (April 2025 to March 2026) DVSA conducted 1,998,621 car practical tests and 1,000,043 passed, a national pass rate of 50%.
- Which driving test centres have the lowest pass rates?
- Among centres with at least 300 tests in 2025/26, the lowest pass rates were at Wolverhampton (34.3%), Wednesbury (35%), Barking Tanner Street (36.3%), Dunfermline (Vine) (36.4%), Featherstone (36.4%), Gateshead (37.5%).
- Which driving test centres have the highest pass rates?
- Among centres with at least 300 tests in 2025/26, the highest pass rates were at Montrose (70%), Melton Mowbray (69.7%), Barrow In Furness (69.6%), Dorchester (69%), Pwllheli (68.1%), Lerwick (67.8%). Small rural centres often post high rates, but they also test far fewer people.
- Which region has the highest pass rate?
- Weighted by tests conducted, South East had the highest pass rate (53.2%) and West Midlands the lowest (46.2%); London centres combined passed 48.8%.
- Can I take my test at a centre with a higher pass rate?
- You can change a car test booking twice. Since 9 June 2026 you can only move it to one of the 3 nearest centres (GOV.UK). A higher pass rate is not automatically easier: you will drive unfamiliar roads, so practise compiled routes wherever you are booked.
